Cambodia Trip December 2013 - Day 1

15/12/13
The story begins here:

After 1 and a half hour flight, the plane safely touched down on the land called Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
First tuk tuk spotted, on my way to hotel.

Was lucky enough to witness the wedding decoration of Cambodian =D

The busy street

Hmm.. Well understood

After settled down, it's time for food.
Tried The Pizza Company, The pizza tasted so much nicer than those leading franchisers in Malaysia.

Look at the mozzarella cheese! <3 <3 <3

It was a quick lunch before we started our first visit to the one of the tourist attractions.

The Royal Palace
In Cambodia, the palace is open to the public. Only the residence area of the King is prohibited from entering.
It only closes when some special events are held in the palace.
I couldn't stop myself from snapping photos which ended up as if I was photo spamming my phone.
There are beautiful carvings, breath-taking architectures, green plants and historical painting.
This is the palace full with Khmer traditional arts.

Just right opposite the palace, there's a monk school.
In Cambodia, anyone can be a monk or nun and that person can decide the period or periods of commitment.

The walkway outside the wall of palace.

Monks walking on the road heading to the direction of monk school.

The way into palace area after the ticketing booth.

How beautiful~

One of the palace gates.
If I'm not mistaken, there is four main gates locating at the North, East, West and South of the palace.

The 7 colours representing 7 days in a week. Each colour is worn on the respective day. For example, Orange on Tuesday. (I am not very sure which colour is for which day, just giving my own illustration.)

The main colours on the buildings are gold, yellow, white and silver.
Gold and silver are the two most representative colours for Cambodian.

The painting on the story of Ramayana.
The story is about the war between Hinduism and Buddhism.
Angkor was a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom, but there are also certain periods where mono-religion of either Hindu or Buddhist took place.
Now, Cambodia is a Buddhist country with small numbers of Muslim and Christian.

The place storing the remaining of the royal families after the decease was burnt.
I suppose it is called a grave?
Anyway, I love the carvings.

A monkey was busy eating the lotus seed.
Lotus is the national flower of Cambodia.

A mini Angkor Wat was found in the palace.

Yellow hibiscus =D

The traditional music band.

Museum
Second stop for the first day was the museum.
Not much photo taken as no photography is allowed in the museum.
Personally, I don't really like the visit. It wasn't my thing.
There is only broken statues of Hindu gods (Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu) and some other broken parts from Angkor Wat.
However, I do love the architecture of the building. =)

This is Garuda, a bird god.

End of day 1.

Day 2-5 journey is yet to be continue...
